“Warren Buffett says along with equities, single-family homes are a very attractive investment right now. Appearing live on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Buffett tells Becky Quick he’d buy up “millions” of single family homes if it were practical to do so.”
“If held for a long period of time and purchased at low rates, Buffett says houses are even better than stocks. He advises buyers to take out a 30-year mortgage and refinance if rates go down.”
What’s good enough for Warren could be good enough for us right? When to comes to investing maybe not everything Warren Buffett talks about is spot on but he is usually right, and now he is recommending that if you have the money to invest, this is a good time to invest in Real Estate.
His other thoughts are important too.
1. If you buy a property to renovate or flip, then holding on to it for a long time is not really required but….
2. If you are buying a move-in ready property it should be noted that this type of investment should be held for some years.
If you are looking for a rental, that’s easy, just keep it rented. But if you have to sell in a year or two, you may not have seen a large enough increase in equity to make back all of your closing costs incurred in the original purchase and what you will incur upon the sale.
